Rally Of The Lakes Weekend 2021
Every year at the May Bank Holiday Weekend, Killarney is buzzing with the excitement and sounds of
Rally Cars and the many competitors and spectators looking forward to Ireland’s premier motoring event which takes places over the best stages. Unfortunately for the second year in a row, this event has had to be cancelled due to COVID Restrictions so it will be sadly missed by all of us who love this sport.
Here we have some photos and memories of the last event in 2019 and previous years just to remind us all what we are missing and how great it will be to have it back in action for next year.
We are also very sad this weekend as we have lost one of our great members in the last week. Johnny Hickey died suddenly last weekend and this has been a terrible shock to all who knew him. Johnny has been part of the organising team of the Lakes Rally for a long time and he has played a pivotal role in the success of this great rally.
One of Johnny’s main responsibilities was the production of the Rally Programme and he always strived to make sure it was the best and then to make sure each year the next programme was better and bigger than the previous year. He was involved in all other aspects of the event and he was a huge support to all of our Clerks of Course over the years. On top of all of this work he managed to sit in with his father Charlie in their Escort and they achieved many notable results over the years.
Johnny is going to be missed so much by all his friends in KDMC and all the rally people that knew him, but every May weekend and the end of the year Historic Rally, Johnny Hickey will be forever in our thoughts.
